As we enter 2025, it is clear that the concept of “sustainability” has become a central focus in the seed industry, especially when considering the broader framework of agricultural production and the global demand for food. In the most general terms, sustainable agriculture can be defined as the methods and practices applied in farming to ensure that sufficient and high-quality agricultural products are produced in harmony with environmental conditions and in alignment with the growing needs of the global population. Sustainability in agriculture is no longer a choice—it has become a necessity. Meeting the future food demands of the global population now stands as a shared global responsibility. The traditional perception of the producer as a “peasant-farmer” has evolved, giving way to a “professional producer” focused on industrial-scale production. This shift has made plant breeding and sustainable agriculture top priorities for seed companies. At ProGen, the foundation of our genomic selection and plant breeding efforts—particularly in field crops such as cotton, wheat, barley, and soybean—is driven by our mission to develop and offer new, high-quality, producer-friendly varieties that are sustainable and adapted to changing environmental conditions. The conventional methods of plant breeding, being largely dependent on environmental factors and requiring extended timeframes, have become a bottleneck for agricultural advancement and raise significant concerns for the future. Our work in this area demonstrates ’s commitment to actively participating in the ongoing transformation of both the national and global seed sectors, rather than remaining a passive observer. In 2017, our organization was officially recognized as an R&D Center by the Republic of Türkiye’s Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology. With this designation, we not only became the first R&D Center in the Hatay province, but also the first seed company focused on field crops in Türkiye to be granted such a status. also invests in the integration of Smart Agriculture Applications—a topic of increasing relevance in recent years. We believe these technologies will enhance productivity in agricultural production while minimizing negative environmental impacts. As such, we are incorporating smart agriculture techniques into our seed production processes as part of our commitment to innovation and sustainability.
